Just like community day celebrations around the world, the Isanlu community had her community day celebration. Community days are meant to bring people together to their root, to discuss issues bothering on the progress and social development of the community.
The Alhaji Yahaya Bello led administration is playing a significant role in strengthening the community and attend to concerns about the development, and social, cultural and political harmony of the people, and that is why the administration came up with the New Direction Plan that aims at catering for every strata of the communities in Kogi State.
Isanlu is blessed with so many resources that can bring about not just development of the community but also that of the state at large. This dream can be realized if individuals, families, and communities in the state support this administration by contributing their own quota.
On the 27th of August 2015, the United Nation had a CALL TO ACTION SUMMIT at Taj Palace, New Delhi. Its focus was on women, children and Adolescent. The then UN Secretary- General Ahmad Alhendawi, gave a shocking statistics that 1.2 million of that category (women, children and youth) lost their lives in 2012 as a result of inadequate access to medical facilities.
Just like Global Strategy for Women, Children and adolescent Health, 2016 – 2030 which is a roadmap to achieve grater things for women and to transform their future, Mrs Rashida Bello saw the community celebration as an avenue to empower women. She believe that by doing that, she is sending a child to school and taking care of the child’s need. When you empower one woman, you have empowered a whole community,’ she says.
Empowering women also creates self-help groups and initiatives for creating positive social change in rural areas. Women contribute to the social welfare of the community, and contribute significantly to the growth and development of the state.
An Indian proverb says, ‘’the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world’’. Women and youth empowerment is what KOWYAF stands for.
